Banele was born on the 8th October 2004. Other than his date of birth, there is no other birth history for him. He was born HIVpositive to a single mother suffering from an alcohol addiction. At 5 months he was left abandoned at the Somerset Hospital in Cape Town. He was treated for tuberculosis and pneumonia over a period of months. After this he was moved to palliative care.
